Why Exotic Floral Decor in Mumbai Is Becoming a Corporate Statement Piece

by Pooja Chauhan 07 Oct 2026

Think of a Grade A tower lobby in BKC. Glass, stone, a security desk, a bank of lifts. Now think of the tower next to it. They look alike, and the companies renting inside usually had little say in either.

The things a tenant does control are smaller: the reception counter, the boardroom table, the console outside the MD's cabin. A growing number of firms are putting real thought into those spots. Instead of a bouquet that's finished by Friday, they commission one large arrangement of tropical stems and give it room. This is what Exotic Floral Decor in Mumbai has come to mean for businesses. One visible decision, in a building where the developer made all the others.

We're a florist, so we gain if you agree with us. Where something has a source, we've linked it. Where it's our own view, we've said so.

The building is fixed, so the interior does the talking

Mumbai's office market is busy and expensive. CBRE reported record office leasing across India of 82.6 million sq. ft. in 2025, with Mumbai taking about 22 per cent. It also says developers are building more premium, green-certified space because tenants care about employee experience. A column from August 2026, written by a flex-space operator, says average rents in the top six cities rose 2 to 7 per cent in Q2 2026. The author sells managed offices, so factor that in. The direction of travel matches CBRE.

Leases run for years. A floral programme can change every month, with no contractor, no permit and no fit-out budget. We suspect that's why facilities and brand teams have started paying attention, and the flowers themselves come second. That's an opinion, not a finding.

Operators are heading the same way. CorporatEdge opened a BKC centre in September 2025 with a hospitality-style design and a Zen Garden. The Executive Centre called its April 2026 Mumbai and Pune expansion experience-led. Both are press releases. They show how the operators want to be seen, and that's all.

What "exotic" covers

The word exotic often used by florists for tropical or plants with unusual stems, plants like ginger, proteas, orchids, anthuriums, birds of paradise etc can fall under this category. Showy usually gets read as fragile. Several of these last longer than you'd guess.

A North Carolina State University handling guide for tropical cut flowers gives these vase lives:

Stem

Vase life

Where it tends to work

Anthurium

14 to 28 days

Reception counters, long-run arrangements

Bird of paradise

7 to 14 days

Tall floor pieces, lobbies

Cymbidium orchid

7 to 10 days

Boardroom and meeting tables

Dendrobium orchid

7 to 21 days, varies widely by variety

Mixed arrangements, low tablescapes

The third column is our judgement, not the guide's. The day counts assume decent care too. If nobody changes the water, don't expect them.

Price won't tell you whether a stem suits an office. Build will. An anthurium can carry a reception piece for a fortnight, while a bunch of carnations is usually done by the weekend.

The rest comes down to design training. The Botanists Story is led by Pooja Chauhan, who has practised Ikebana for over 17 years. She holds the Level Somu certification from the Sogetsu School in Japan (founded in 1927 by Sofu Teshigahara) and a Professional Business of Floristry and Event Styling certificate from the Judith Blacklock Flower School in London. Before the studio, she spent more than ten years as a floral stylist at Omakse. Empty spaces are used for composition by Ikebana; fifty stems packed in a dome do not look better than five stems if placed strategically, it can be simplified by the company as decoration rather than putting pressure to establish it.

Do flowers help people work?

Some evidence says natural elements do, though it's thinner than most blog posts suggest.

A study from University of Reading did an experiment with focus, by putting potted plants into 19 offices with 40 occupants. People attend there, reported to have better attention, productivity and creativity. If the pots are taken back, the productivity and attention goes down and the stress level catches up.  A review from 2024 published in Industrial and Commercial Training has gone through 45 peer reviewed papers and also biophilic office design for better wellbeing and job contentment in employees mostly who are from Gen Z. A group can be termed as small with 40 people, results were internally revealed, so they can show authentic result how they feel and what they produced.  And neither source tested cut flowers. We wouldn't promise a client that an arrangement will make their team more productive. We would say that something living and changeable in the room goes with better reported attention and mood, and that fresh flowers are an easy way to add it.

Where a statement piece belongs

Reception, mostly. Every client walks past it, which is why Exotic Floral Decor in Mumbai pays off fastest there. One big arrangement beats five small ones spread across a floor.

Boardrooms are next, but keep the work low. A tall centrepiece blocks eye contact across a table, and a meeting where people can't see each other has missed the point. The studio's tablescapes are made for seated settings like this.

Gifts are a different job. Diwali, client anniversaries and staff awards all call for something that survives on a desk, and the gifting range is built for that. Launches, investor evenings and hosted dinners go through the events service.

It won't suit narrow corridors, or open desk areas where people brush past all day, or any room where no one has been given the job of topping up the water. An arrangement without a caretaker turns into a problem quickly.

Weather and air conditioning

If the office air conditioning system kept on low, you need to think before keeping a tropical plant in it. A study in  post-harvest best practices report  suggested that orchids, ginger or anthurium types of plants need to keep in around 10°C. It is warmer than 0.6°C  to 1.67°C  which most cut flowers prefer to survive. So a cold lobby can shorten the life of stems you picked for endurance.

Monsoon is another thing to worry about. What we learned from our experience, delivery and humidity gives challenges to deliver the plants in fresh condition during the month of June to September. If any event is coming during this period, contact your preferred florist early so that they can condition the stem and chosen well to cope up with the venue.

How to brief a florist

Most disappointing results start with a vague brief. A few details fix most of it.

You need to provide the exact size of the spot lighting in the location, not only for the reception area. Ask for the duration it needs to be kept fresh, as a gala for one night and a front counter are two very different scenarios. Also share the brand colours and share the mood you need your visitors to sink in. provide the name of the person who will take care of it and also request for care notes written clearly. The floral care guide works as a handout for your facilities team. For ongoing needs, ask about the monthly and yearly subscriptions, so deliveries turn up on schedule and nobody has to remember to call.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a reception arrangement last?
It depends on the stems and the room. Going by the NC State ranges above, an anthurium-led piece can look good for two weeks or more, while cymbidium orchids are closer to one. Plan the refresh around the shortest-lived stem in the design.

Will flowers make my team more productive?
The research links natural elements with better reported attention and wellbeing, but the studies are small and mostly about plants. Flowers suit a decent workspace. They won't fix bad lighting, a cramped layout or an overloaded team.

Is a regular supply better than one-off orders?
For reception and boardrooms, usually. The florist can plan stems and refresh dates in advance. One-off orders suit launches and gifts.

Can the design match our brand?
Yes. Colour, scale and style can all be built around it. Ask to see past work first.

When should we book for Diwali or year-end events?
Early. Premium stems and delivery slots get tight in festive weeks, and custom work needs design time.

What should I ask a florist before hiring them?
Ask about their training, how they handle recurring deliveries and what they'd suggest for your climate conditions. Ask to see corporate or event work, not just bouquets.

To sum up

The growth of Exotic Floral Decor in Mumbai makes more sense once you notice how similar most offices have become. Buildings look alike, rents keep climbing, and the interior is the one thing a tenant can still change quickly. Exotic stems earn their place when they're chosen for structure and staying power, placed with restraint and looked after by someone who owns the job. They let you down when they're just an expensive way to fill a corner.

If you're planning a reception refresh, a launch or a standing floral programme, start with the space and how long the piece has to last, then work back to the stems. To talk through a brief, message The Botanists Story on WhatsApp at +91 99209 44499.
